Monday , 'P' day was perfectly beautiful, no rain for the first time. We had business at the church and while waiting for people to show up we walked to the beach, a short distance away. As the beach curves around and at the far end, that is where we are headed after the meeting.
We are at the far point, Copa Colonna , Hera's Temple, and the one remaining pillar that looks like a needle point along the sea. The countryside is lovely. The other white building is the lighthouse, which is seen back at home.
Another olive grove. We are about 5 miles away from Capo Colonna from this shot.
Not sure how far away, the place was all locked up again, but there is a wall in front of the pillar, that is not part of the pillar. Just think this pillar has been standing for 2800 years! It just boggles the mind!
You can see part of the walk way up to the pillar , but like I said ---- all locked up.
Uncovered is an archway that looks Roman, which is part of the problem. Greek and Roman stuff built in and on and around each other. Anyone for a dig?
By the way, they are pouring more concert over the ruins just a 1/4 of a mile away. Protests had no effect.
A stray dog, we run into them all over but they stay in their territory and are very friendly!
This is a look at back to our home, about half way in between Capo Colonna and Crotone.
Oh that is horrible that they are still covering the ruins. practicality over history I guess.
ReplyDeleteThe views are beautiful! Saving up to see them!!
