The weekend of the 10th was a very hard weekend for me. I was so grateful that I was able to have one last weekend with mom and dad before they flew out to Italy. Especially as Ryan and I were able to get everyone ice cream Friday night, and as dad reminded mom potentially her last ice cream as now she will be eating Gelato!
There were several little tender mercies/miracles that happened. The first thing that happened was Friday afternoon Ryan's parents asked us if it would be possible to drive their truck down to drop off some cupboards to Ryan's step sister in Sandy. This was no big deal and we were happy to do it but it turned out to be a miracle for us. There was a lot of luggage and if not for the truck we would have had to drive two cars down to the airport which would have been more stressful and we wouldn't have all been able to drive down together, not too mention that even with two cars it would have been a tight fit!
Secondly we had the most helpful, wonderful, check in clerk. When we arrived to the airport there was no line and it was amazing that mom and dad had this attentive help. She was so calm and helpful that we were all able to relax and loose some of those jitters. The best part, at least I think so, was with the extra baggage that mom and dad needed to check that cost was the same as upgrading to first class. There were many added benefits to upgrading including a weight increase from 50 pounds per bag to 70! Mom was worried about not taking all the spices she wanted and with this weight increase she was able to take everything she wanted and both mom and dad were able to lighten their over packed carry on's and load up their checked baggage. I know I was very relieved to see them unload their carry on's to make it more manageable and that they didn't have carry their rain coats!
Right after we got to the counter and started checking the bags the crowds came! The whole time at the airport mom and dad were blessed to beat the crowds. Not only at the check in counter but as we approached the security line it looked like there was a huge line but it was for a different airline. After our tearful goodbyes they walked right up to the TSA agent and literally as they got there the masses descended and the security line became packed with I would guess over 40 people lining up right behind them.
I couldn't leave and kept making Ryan wait. I wanted to make sure they got through the screenings, which was no problem, and I wanted to watch them get up the escalator to the terminal. I was anxiously waiting for each and every glimpse of them and they were always smiling and waving and I was bawling and sniffling. With all the miracles it was a relief to see that God was taking care of them and helping them on their way. It was an amazing experience that went better than I could have hoped and mom and dad were safely on their way to Italy!
